Exciting Times: New Site Almost Up (Switch from Onsugar; Please Take Time to Read)

Hello everyone. I've some news to share. Although it's not official yet, I have set up my new blog!

The new site is over at Lacedivory.com and I have switched to self hosting my own site! I'm really excited because this means something to me and it's a great development for Laced Ivory as a whole. I will be adding new entries in that blog and at the same time, the layout and nitty gritty details will still be changed and edited till the final official launch date. At the moment, the Maybelline giveaway is still going on, so do take part in that. You can participate in either one of the two sites but the entries in the new site will only be added in after the ones in this site have been counted. As for the launch date of the new site, it will be announced shortly and it will be on the same day I announce the results of the Maybelline giveaway, which will be sometime in December.

So please, hop on over to Lacedivory.com and follow the blog there if you haven't already done so. As the new site is still undergoing changes, do bear with weird things you might see now and then. The best way to follow the new blog is via Google Friend Connect, though there are other ways to follow it as well, such as via the Facebook page, Bloglovin' and Bloggers.com (they can all be found on the right sidebar of the new blog).

I'm really excited this time round since it's the first time I've ever bought a webhost and done up a website all on my own! I'm sure there will be future developments to Laced Ivory (a store, etc) and I hope everyone's looking forward to that as well. Here's to better times ahead!

Pretty Your Nails with Scotch Naturals and Nourish Naturally

I was invited to a manicure and pedicure session at Nourish Naturally one afternoon this November to try out the new range of nail polishes from Scotch Naturals. It was a fun experience and I really liked how the polishes are natural and harmless.

Scotch Naturals

Scotch Naturals WaterColors nail polishes seem really cool because they are eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, 100% biodegradable, vegan, cruelty-free and are also free of gluten, fragrance, parabens and toxins. On top of that, they don't contain the following three harmful substances normally found in other nail polishes: Formaldehyde, endocrine disruptor Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and reproductive toxin Toluene. To sum it up, Scotch Naturals WaterColors nail polishes contain only water, acrylic polymer and natural colorants and are extremely safe (and odourless) to use, even when you are pregnant!

Because the nail polishes are formulated in this way, they actually help to make your nails healthier when you apply them on. They don't cause yellowing of the nails even if you leave them on for a long time and thus, you don't need to use a base coat. The polishes dry up very quickly, quicker than normal nail polishes. I personally tried a DIY home manicure with one of these products and I am in love with how easy it was to use.

Here's the catch though: If you've been using normal polishes regularly, it means your nails could very well be unhealthy. Scotch Naturals WaterColors nail polishes adhere better to healthy nails than unhealthy ones. This means that if you switch to Scotch Naturals, the polish will start to flake off after just a few days. For me, my very first application started chipping off the second day and lasted less than 5 days, after which it looked simply disastrous. The good news is that after a few manicure sessions with Scotch Natural WaterColors, whether it's done at home or at the salon, the polish will start to adhere better and last longer while it heals and protects your nails. This will take up to 2 - 3 times before you see improvements. Removing the polish is pretty interesting as it doesn't come off as an ink, but rather like paint peeling off a wall. I suggest using a light coloured polish (such as Neat) for the first few times before taking on a dark colour because otherwise, the chipping will be very obvious.

At the moment, there are three collections you can find:

THE FALL 2011 COLLECTION

Scotch Naturals WaterColors 2011 Fall Collection

Macbeth's Dream - Dark mulberry creme

Queen of Scots - Regal shimmering violet

Seething Jealousy - Passionate teal green creme

Stone Fence - Gravelly grey creme

Seaboard - Deep-sea blue creme

THE 2011 HOLIDAY COLLECTION

Scotch Naturals WaterColors 2011 Holiday Collection

Smuggler's Gold - Shimmering gold (to be launched in December)

Balmoral Punch - Shimmering raspberry creme

Klondike Cooler - Shimmering champagne

Charmer - Shimmering platinum (to be launched in December)

THE 2011 RED COLLECTION

Scotch Naturals WaterColors 2011 Red Collection

Stiletto - Vibrant pink-red creme

Troya - Fiery tomato red creme

Kiltlifter - Seductive scarlet creme

To Hell with Swords and Garter - Seductive scarlet creme

Bitter N Twisted - Brooding black cherry creme

Blood and Sand - Intense sparkling burgundy

Macbeth's Dream - Dark mulberry creme

Balmoral Punch - Shimmering raspberry creme

All Scotch Naturals WaterColors nail polishes can be found exclusively at the Scotch Naturals website (Singapore-based) and at Nourish Naturally (located at 215C Upper Thomson Road) and retail at SGD$22.90 each.

Let's take a look at what I went through at Nourish Naturally, the salon that introduced me to Scotch.

Scotch Naturals

Lots of natural goodness

Nourish Naturally

I was seated right beside a full-length window (the salon is located on the second floor).

Nourish Naturally

I'll admit it: It was my first time getting a pedicure at a salon.

Nourish Naturally

This candle is really cool. It melts when you light the wick...

Nourish Naturally

And then you pour the wax out and apply it onto your skin as a moisturiser (plus, it's organic too).

I felt so relaxed at the salon and the staff there were friendly as well. The ambience was nice and I didn't feel rushed at all. I had an express pedicure and a normal full manicure, which included a scrub and moisturiser for my forearms. The scrubs and wax moisturiser were organic and that's what I liked about them. The melted moisturiser wax was not hot and instead it was lukewarm to the touch.

Maybelline Giveaway: 10 Winners to Win a Goodie Bag worth SGD$50 Each!

The title says it all. I'm holding a great Maybelline giveaway right here on my blog, totally sponsored by Maybelline Singapore. There will be a total of 10 lucky winners, so more people get to win something! All the prizes are equal and the giveaway is pretty easy to participate in. Read more below to find out what the items up for grabs are and how to win them!

Maybelline Giveaway on my Blog

All the prizes in each goodie bag

Maybelline Giveaway on my Blog

Long Extreme Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara and a Lip & Eye Makeup Remover (40ml)

Maybelline Giveaway on my Blog

Water Shiny Diamonds Lipstick

Maybelline Giveaway on my Blog

Angel Fit Pore Zero Base SPF 25 PA ++

You don't have to be a follower of the blog to win but you have to be located in Singapore. It doesn't matter if you are Singaporean or not. What is important is that you will be in Singapore at the time I am giving the goodie bags out, which will be sometime in the month of December this year. I won't be mailing the items out to the winners. Instead, there will be a meetup at an MRT station (or a cafe, if you'd prefer to sit and talk) where I will personally hand out the prizes to the 10 winners. I figured that in doing so, I'll get to meet my readers and what better way than this.

To take part, you'll just have to leave a comment at the end of this entry with your name, email and tell me what your favourite Maybelline product is and why. There is a maximum of 10 comments (whether identical or not) each participant can leave and the number of comments you have will increase your chances of winning. I will pick the winners using Random.org so everything will be fair. Of course, all the winners will be different so if your entry is chosen more than once by Random.org, I will pick only your first winning entry.

Now that you've read the rules, how about you begin commenting right now? The deadline of the giveaway is at 11.59pm on 10th December 2011 (Singapore time). Good luck!

FOTD: From Day to Night with Maybelline's Hyper Diamonds Eyeshadow Palette

Maybelline's Eyeshadow Palette

Maybelline's Eyeshadow Palette

Today I'll be featuring how to transform a "Day" look into a "Night" one just with one eyeshadow palette and two different lipstick shades. The eyeshadow palette in question is Maybelline's Hyper Diamonds Eyeshadow Palette. I received this in the mail from the people at Maybelline Singapore and everything printed at the bottom of the palette is written in Japanese - ingredients included - except maybe for "GD-1," which is the palette name. There are 8 different such palettes in all and you can check them out at the Japanese website. Here's the transformation from day to night:

Day to Night with Maybelline

Day to night

For Face: Makeup Forever's Multi Loose Powder and Estee Lauder's Signature Silky Powder Blush in 02 Pink Kiss.

For Eyes (Day): Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Stash and Corrupt, the middle three shades of Maybelline's Hyper Diamonds Eyeshadow Palette in GD-1 and Maybelline's Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara.

For Eyes (Night): Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Stash and Corrupt, all five shades of Maybelline's Hyper Diamonds Eyeshadow Palette in GD-1 and Maybelline's Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara.

For Brows: Shade J4 of my Coastal Scents 88 Original Matte Palette.

For Lips (Day): Korres' Colourless Mandarin Lip Butter Stick SPF 15 and YSL's Rouge Volupté in 01 Nude Beige.

For Lips (Night): Maybelline's Baby Lips Lip Balm in Energizing Orange and M.A.C.'s lipstick in A69 Diva (Matte).

Basically, the difference between the two looks is that I added darker colours to my eyes and lips for the "Night" look. I also lined the bottom eyelids with the darkest shade of the eyeshadow palette using the smaller end of the sponge applicator provided. I apologise for the crappy self shots because I still haven't saved enough for a good Nikon. So, which of the two looks do you prefer?

Review: Makeup Forever's Multi Loose Powder

Makeup Forever's Multi Loose Powder

Makeup Forever's Multi Loose Powder

When you attend a concert, there's almost always an intermission. This entry is my form of a break in between the Maybelline series of entries in case you get bored and want to read about something else.

I have here a stack of Multi Loose Powder from Makeup Forever. I had bought these around the end of 2009 and they're still in good condition. The shades are, from top to bottom, No. 20, 16, 14 and 12 with No. 20 being the darkest and 12 being the lightest. The only shades I use on myself are the middle two, depending on how I feel about the way I look on the particular day.

The first thing I noticed about the powder is that it doesn't really have coverage because it's meant to be used over foundation as a finishing touch. I apply it with my EcoTools Retractable Kabuki Brush over my slightly moisturised face. The powder is mattifying and I really like how it allows my skin to breathe from start to end, even after hours of having it on. It doesn't ever cake and it gives my skin an extremely smooth and natural-looking finish (I had to stop myself from stroking my face because that just seems weird). The particles are really fine and spread evenly throughout. Of all the times I've used it, it has never broken me out nor given me any allergic reactions.

In addition, I noticed that the powder also has a somewhat reflective property. This means that my skin actually looks more radiant and appears brighter in photos which are taken with flash. Any blemish is cleverly shielded from showing up clearly in pictures, even though they might be easy to spot in real life. The only complain I have with this powder is that it does not contain SPF and thus it falls short of being my Holy Grail for the moment. I recommend this product to makeup artists because of the versatility, shades and the wonderful finish it gives.

Maybelline's Color Sensational Lipsticks Swatch

Swatches of 065 Hooked on Pink, 635 Very Cherry, 435 Plum Perfect and 355 Tinted Taupe (from left to right)

I had seen these babies at Carrefour in France last year and I am actually quite surprised that they haven't been launched in Singapore yet. I simply adore these lipsticks from Maybelline. Not only are they wallet-friendly, they are also creamy and easy to apply. The lipsticks are very pigmented and the colour payoff is great. As for the smell, there is definitely some added fragrance. I don't really know how to describe this smell but the closest I can think of is lipstick + chocolate + cardboard boxes combined. I know it sounds weird but this is something that you have to check out for yourself. Out of the four shades I have, Tinted Taupe is the creamiest and least pigmented because when I go over the initial layer a second time, it kind of wipes off the first layer.

The cool thing about the range is that there are 20 shades to pick from and they are categorised into four different colour ranges: Ravishing Reds & Corals, Polished Pinks, Provocative Plums and Sensual Nudes. As you can see in the pictures at the start of this entry, I have one from each colour range. The colours under Ravishing Reds & Corals are: Peachy Scene, Summer Sunset, Are You Red-dy, Very Cherry and Red Revival; The colours under Polished Pinks are: Born with It, Pink Peony, Hooked on Pink, Pink Wink and Party Pink; The colours under Provocative Plums are: Yummy Plummy, Plum-tastic, Plum Paradise, Plum Perfect and Mauve Me; and finally, the colours under Sensual Nudes are: Trendy Toffee, Warm Me Up, Crazy for Coffee, Cinnamon Stick and Tinted Taupe.

These lipsticks are definitely something worth checking out when they launch in December 2011 at Watsons, Guardian, SASA, major supermarkets and hypermarkets and selected departmental stores. They will each retail at SGD$17.90.

Review: Maybelline's Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara

Maybelline's Falsies Volum' Express Mascara

Maybelline's Falsies Volum' Express Mascara

The curved brush

I was given this mascara to try out and I pretty much like it. The mascara is more or less waterproof but if you cry and then rub your eyes, it may flake a teeny bit. It's formulated to give Asian lashes five times more volume and being a fibre mascara, I can see how. My lashes were also curled slightly more than other mascaras I've tried before. I also like the Spoon Curler Brush, which isn't like the normal curved mascara brushes I'm used to seeing. It's wider on the concave and convex parts, and thinner on the sides. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this mascara and would definitely consider it when I'm looking for a new one.

The mascara will be available at Watsons, Guardian, SASA, major supermarkets, hypermarkets and selected departmental stores from December 2011. It will retail at SGD$20.90.

Ingredient List

Maybelline's Pure Mineral B. B. Mousse

This a mini review of Maybelline's new product, the Pure Mineral B. B. Mousse. I don't really do foundation reviews because of the condition of my skin and I really rather not risk having a serious breakout from anything. However, I'd just like to feature this product on my blog as part of a Maybelline Series of posts, which will end up with the final blog entry being a giveaway.

Maybelline's Pure Mineral B. B. Mousse Foundation

Maybelline's Pure Mineral B.B. Mousse

The mousse was developed in Japan and contains micro minerals and B. B. ingredients. It's supposed to be an 8-in-1 skincare solution, where the eight benefits are:

1) In depth hydration

2) Brightening of skin tone

3) Leaving skin suppler

4) Smoothing out of pores

5) Lifting of dullness

6) Redness reduction

7) Skin texture redefinition

8) Protection against UV rays with SPF 30 / PA +++

I tested the mousse out on my arm. Almost immediately after I pumped the product out, it started bubbling (something like the O2 oxygen mask) and the texture turned into something like what egg whites would if you beat them for long and fast enough to make meringues. The mousse went on easily and evenly as well. As alcohol is one of the ingredients in the list and I am allergic to it, I did not test it on my face. Therefore, I am not able to tell if the product causes any breakouts or if its B. B. benefits work. The mousse will be available at Watsons, Guardian, SASA, major supermarkets, hypermarkets and selected departmental stores from November 2011 and will retail for SGD$23.90.

Ingredient List

Aqua / Water, Butylene Glycol, Talc, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butane, Ethylhexyl Salicyclate, Calcium Carbonate, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Propane, Isobutane, PEG / PPG / Polybutylene Glycol – 8/5/3 Glycerin, Glycerin, Octocrylene, Diisostearyl Malate, HDI / Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica, Maltitol, Alcohol, Betaine, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylenehexylglycerin, p – Anisic Acid, Aluminium Hydroxide, Alginic Acid, Alumina Pentane, Sorbitol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate and Ethane. May contain: CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide and CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 / Iron Oxides.

Mini Blog Sale: Dior & Liese

Today I'm selling two of my beauty items, a Dior foundation and a Liese hair dye. Because of the nature of the products, I am only opening this sale to my readers in Singapore.

The Dior foundation is Dior's Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup Liquid Foundation SPF 10 in Shade 020, Light Beige. I have only used this twice, which means a total of two pumps and so it is good as new. I have touched the nozzle with a clean, dry, sanitised part at the back of my hand only twice. I'm selling this because I have changed my facial cleanser and now my skin is back to being allergic to alcohol. This foundation contains alcohol so anyone else allergic to it shouldn't consider getting this. I have loved this product but sadly I now have to sell it. I bought this about 1 - 2 weeks ago at Bugis' BHG for SGD$69 and am selling it for SGD$50 - a real steal!

Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup Liquid Foundation SPF 10

The hair dye I'm selling is Liese's Bubble Hair Colour in Platinum Beige. This item is brand new and never opened. The top of the box is still sealed with a sticker. I bought this at NTUC for a little over SGD$14 and am selling this for SGD$10. It was an impulse buy and I really don't know why I bought it. I don't see myself dyeing my hair anytime soon so this has to go.

I will sell these items with a meetup only at my convenience. They really have to go or they will go to waste and just take up space at home. So please leave a comment if you are interested. Prices may be negotiable but I will sell them immediately to anyone who is ready to offer the prices stated. All sales are final. They are both in excellent condition. Everything stated about the products here are true and I guarantee this from the bottom of my heart!
